"1941 Immensely rare airmail cover from reoccupied territory 'Phratabong' province to Phompenh, Cambodia Indochina. with extremely unusual routng combination of land and air via Dai Nippon Airways (D.N.A.), franked of Rama VIII 5 St.(#292) and 10 St.(#293) pair, totally 25 St. paying for inland letter rate 10 St. and oversea airmail rate 15 St. Tied by (1) 'Phratabong' cds bilingual dated 17 September 1941 (56 days after reoccupation) and sent to Bangkok by land with (2) censor no.9 in violet circle, the cover then flown to Hanoi, Indochina by (3) D.N.A. On arriving in Hanoi the cover was opened on left for censor and resealed by (4) label bearing wording 'CONTROLE POSTAL MILITAIRE', (5) control chopmarks 'OUVER PAR L'AUTORITE MILITAIRE' twice both obverse and reverse, and stamped (6) square box 'VENEZ VISITOR HANOI' in black. Cover again flown to Saigon, Indochina by D.N.A. with (7) transit 'SAIGON CENTRAL COCHINCHINE' cds (partial visible). Finally, the cover mailed to Phompenh, Cambodia by land with (8) censor 'D1' (Pnompenh) in circle twice both obverse and reverse and (9) 'PNOMPENH CAMBODIA' arrival cds dated 23.9.1941. The only cover recorded for such an unusal routing due to WWII period and surely is an exhibition showpiece for any advance collection thus excessively rare. Very Fine. The usage of this issue was about 60 days until the newly printed design arrived from Bangkok on 15 Jan. 1944, only a handful postally used covers survied to date thus excessively rare.
